TIRUNELVELI: A 40-year-old man from Ambasamudram has alleged medical negligence on the part of the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital.
He petitioned District Collector Anand Mohan alleging that he was suffering from various skin diseases including inflammation and swelling since 2018 when he was allegedly administered an injection at the TvMCH under police custody.
The petitioner, C Sankar, along with his family members and advocates submitted the petition at the grievance redressal meeting at the Tirunelveli District Collectorate.
Sankar claimed that the Kallidaikurichi police had arrested him in a false case since he was affiliated with a local caste-based organisation.
Speaking to media persons, Sankar raised suspicion that he might have been administered with a wrong injection.
“I was arrested on June 19, 2018 by the police without informing the reason for it. I was manhandled by the police personnel at the station. When I conveyed this to the Judicial Magistrate, he ordered treatment for me, for which I was taken to TvMCH. I was forcefully administered an injection. Since then I have been facing various skin diseases. I have approached the district administration now as my condition turned unbearable,” he claimed.
When contacted by the TNIE, a police official, wishing anonymity, said Sankar’s allegations were false and lacked evidence.
Other petitions at the meeting included one by TMMK functionaries demanding the renaming of the Sulochana Muthaliar bridge over the Thamirabarani as Manjolai Thiyagikal Ninaivu Paalam, remembering 17 tea estate workers who were killed during a protest in 1999.
A few members of the Kattunayakkar community from Lalukapuram in Tirunelveli city, meanwhile, urged the district administration to issue community certificates to three children of one K Pechiyammal. They said that due to the delay in issuing the certificate, their children’s education was affected.
Police complaint against former councillor
Meanwhile, in Tenkasi’s Alangulam town, Kamarajar Statue Maintenance and Educational Development Committee members led by their secretary KS Kumar filed a complaint with the Alangulam police alleging that former town panchayat councillor M S Arunachalam denigrated late chief ministers Kamaraj and CN Annadurai in a phone conversation, which went viral on social media. The police registered a CSR and began an inquiry.
